Shipping guide

Shipping and delivery

You choose where you deliver, what each delivery costs and how long it takes. At checkout LotsStore shows each shopper the options that fit their address and order, with a price and a delivery date. You pack and send the orders yourself with any courier, then mark each step on the order page.

Everything on this page is on your store's Shipping page in the dashboard.

1. Zones: where you deliver

A zone is a group of addresses. Give it a name and any of: countries (IN, US, GB), state or region codes (TN, CA), and postcode rules. Leave a box empty to match everything.

  • One postcode: 600001
  • Postcodes that start the same: 600*
  • A range of number postcodes: 600001-600099
  • Several rules: separate them with commas. Excluded postcodes takes the same rules for places inside the zone you don't deliver to.

When an address fits more than one zone, only the zone higher in your list is used. Put small zones (one city) above big ones (the whole country) with the arrow buttons. A method with no zone is offered to every address.

2. Delivery methods and prices

Each method has a name, a zone and a type:

  • Fixed price: the same price for every order.
  • Free delivery: always free.
  • Price by weight: a price for each weight band, for example up to 1 kg 40, up to 5 kg 90, above that 200.
  • Price by order value: a price for each band of the items total, for example up to 500 a price of 70, up to 2,000 a price of 30.
  • Local pickup: the shopper collects the order from you. See section 5.

In a band table, each band runs from the end of the band before it up to its own amount. Leave the last band's upper amount empty to cover everything above it. An order above the last band does not see that method.

Free above makes a method free once the items total reaches that amount. You can also limit a method to an order value or weight range: outside it, the method is not shown. Checkout lists methods in your order and picks the cheapest for the shopper, who can choose another.

3. Weight and heavy items

Weight decides the price band and any weight limits. Set each product's weight in grams on the product page, under Shipping and customs. A variant with its own weight uses that. A product with no weight uses the Fallback product weight on the Shipping page (500 g until you change it). The order's weight is the weight of each item times its quantity, added up.

For something heavy or bulky, add a Heavy item charge on its product page. It is added to every delivery option for each one ordered, even free delivery, so it still covers your cost. It is not added to pickup.

4. Handling fee

A handling fee is one amount per order, for packing or materials. It is added to paid delivery options. It is not added to pickup, to a free delivery method, or when an order is over a method's free above amount.

The price a shopper sees for a delivery option is the method's price plus the handling fee and any heavy item charges.

5. Local pickup

Pickup is offered to every shopper and needs no delivery address: a name, phone number and email are enough. Add Pickup instructions, for example your address, opening hours and what to bring. Shoppers see them when they choose pickup. Pickup is always free.

Under Ready for pickup after, set how many working days after processing the order is ready. The shopper sees, for example, Ready for pickup from Fri 30 Oct.

6. Delivery dates

Each option at checkout shows a date, for example Arrives Tue 4 Nov to Fri 7 Nov. Four settings decide it:

  • Processing days (default 1): working days you need to pack an order before it ships. 0 means it ships the same day.
  • Order cut-off time (default 16:00): orders placed after this time count from the next working day.
  • Working days (default Monday to Saturday): the days you pack and couriers deliver. Other days are skipped.
  • Time zone: the cut-off time and dates use it. It starts as your country's time zone.

Then each method's Delivery time, for example 2 to 4, is counted in working days after the order ships. A method with no delivery time shows no date.

For example, with the defaults: an order placed on Thursday at 10:00 counts from Thursday and ships on Friday. With a delivery time of 2 to 4 working days it arrives Monday to Wednesday, because Sunday is skipped. The same order placed at 17:00 counts from Friday, ships on Saturday and arrives Tuesday to Thursday.

The date is saved on the order. Once you mark the order shipped, the date is worked out again from the day it shipped.

7. Pack, ship and deliver

Open the order from Orders. After you accept it, the order page shows one step at a time:

  1. 1
Start processing when you begin work on the order.
  2. 2
Pack and create fulfillment when it is packed. You can add a packing note.
  3. 3
Mark shipped when the courier has it. Enter the courier and the tracking number. A tracking link is optional.
  4. 4
Mark delivered when it has arrived.

Steps go forward only: a shipped order cannot go back to packed, and an order cannot be delivered before it is shipped. You can cancel an order until it ships. The same rules apply when you or an AI assistant changes an order.

You don't have to wait for every delivery. Mark as delivered after (default 7 days) marks a shipped order delivered that many days after you shipped it, unless it is already delivered. Set it to 0 to turn this off. The shopper can also press I received my order on their order page, and you can still mark it delivered yourself.

8. What the shopper sees

  • At checkout, the delivery options appear as soon as their address is complete, each with its price and date. The cheapest is chosen for them. If nothing fits their address, checkout says so.
  • Their order page shows each step with its date and time, the delivery date, and the courier, tracking number and link once you ship.
  • Emails at each step link to that order page. The confirmed and shipped emails include the delivery date, and the shipped email names the courier and tracking number.
  • Signed-in shoppers see the same on their account's order pages.

What LotsStore does and doesn't do

  • It works out which delivery options each order gets, their prices and dates, from your settings, and keeps them on the order.
  • It does not book couriers, print labels or follow parcels for you. You send each order with the courier you choose and add the tracking number.
  • Delivery dates are estimates from your own settings. Keep your processing days and delivery times honest so the dates hold.
